Oman’s transport minister discusses road projects with Shura Council

The session saw deliberations about the causes of delay in implementation of road projects beyond the specified periods.

MUSCAT: The Shura Council today hosted Eng. Said Hamoud Al Ma’awali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in a session dedicated solely to the topic of Oman’s road strategy.

The session saw deliberations about the causes of delay in implementation of road projects beyond the specified periods. The high cost of projects was put to scrutiny by the Council members, who also demanded a review of technical specifications.

The session was the first in a series of topics listed for discussion during the current Shura Council term. It was held in execution of Article 68 of the Shura Council Law promulgated under Royal Decree No. 7/2021 and in accordance with Article 68 of Oman Council Law.

The deliberations of the session took place as part of the fifth annual sitting of the Shura Council for the period 2021-2022 of the Council’s 9thTerm (2019-2023) being convened under the auspices of Khalid Hilal Al Ma’awali, Chairman of the Shura Council.

The members asked the minister to compare the actual cost with the real cost of major projects on the strategy, as well as the time accorded to the execution of the projects as against the progress made so far.
