MUSCAT: With Oman making vaccination mandatory for both public and private sector employees, the Ministry of Labour said it will take legal action against those workers who fail to show COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

“Employee or worker must submit a vaccination certificate stating that he/she has taken two doses of any vaccine approved in the Sultanate of Oman or shows a medical report issued by a health institution confirming that the employee is facing a health condition that prohibits him/her from taking the vaccine,” Ministry of Labour said.

The Ministry urged both public and private sector firms to deny access to the employee who fails to submit the vaccination certificate or the medical report. “In the event that an employee has been denied access to the workplace due to non-submission of a vaccination certificate or a medical report stating the condition that barred him/her from taking the prescribed vaccination, the unit has a right to apply the provisions of a unit’s job system pertaining to an employee’s non-attendance (at the workplace) that is not justified by an authorized leave of absence,” the Ministry said.

“The Ministry of Labour requests all units of the State’s Administrative Apparatus, other legal public bodies and private sector establishments to distribute this circular to their employees and to advise those who have not yet taken the vaccination to come to terms with its requirements, notably to protect their colleagues and families and limit the risks posed by the virus,” the statement added.
