MUSCAT: The performance of Ministers, Under Secretaries and employees of government units will be evaluated through an appraisal system that will be implemented by the Ministry of Labour.

His Excellency Sayyid Salim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour for Human Resources Development said the individual performance system will be launched early next year. “The system will not give room for personal interference as it is an electronic system. No official can interfere in the performance of any employee,” Al Busaidi said.

According to Al Busaidi, 57 government bodies would be subjected to the individual performance and institutional excellence system. “The restructuring of the administrative apparatus of the state is one of the key enablers of Oman Vision 2040 and we hope to complete restructuring of all government entities within a month as only six institutions are yet to restructured out of thirty six government institutions,” he said in an interview with Arabic FM Al Shabiba.

In July, The Arabian Stories, had reported about the ministry’s plan to implement the system to evaluate the performance of employees working in the government institutions and state-owned companies that will set parameters in determining promotions, bonuses and incentives.

“Rewarding employees is a measure of the employee’s commitment to achieving the goals entrusted to him and completing the tasks required of him, whether on a daily, monthly or annual level,” the official said.

For government units, the system will help facilitate the completion of the operational plan, and maintain competencies, effectiveness and efficiency in analysing human resources.
