MUSCAT: As the nationwide night lockdown came to an end on Saturday, Oman is preparing to gradually return life to normalcy. With cases and deaths significantly dropping in the last one month, the Supreme Committee has decided to bring life and businesses back on track.

A clear strategy has been developed by the government including making vaccination mandatory. Starting from September 1, everyone must take Covid-19 vaccination to enter government institutions, shopping malls, restaurants, travel, private sector facilities and venues hosting cultural, sports and group activities.

“The most effective strategy to protect against COVID-19 and its variants is to be fully vaccinated,” said a senior Ministry of Health official, speaking to The Arabian Stories.

Nearly 35 per cent of the target group have been fully vaccinated, and MOH is aiming to touch 70 per cent by end of October. “By implementing vaccination mandatory, the government is sending a clear message that it wants to bring life back to normal,” said Omani citizen Abulhameed Al Hadhramy.

“For our health care system and for the best overall wellbeing of society, we have a responsibility to support mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations. The evidence is clear. COVID-19 represents a continual threat to public health including having a high impact on health care workers,” Al Hadhramy added.

“The safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination is equal to other mandatory vaccinations. There is no alternative that can compare to vaccination in terms of safety and effectiveness,” the MOH official said.
