Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani in UAE, says country’s foreign ministry

Ghani fled Afghanistan just as the Taliban approached Kabul.

DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday confirmed that it has accepted Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and his family for “humanitarian considerations.”

Ghani fled Afghanistan just as the Taliban approached Kabul. State-owned news agency WAM quoted Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reported that the UAE received President Ashraf Ghani and his family based on humanitarian considerations,” WAM said in a statement.
