MUSCAT: Advertising or promoting alcoholic beverages is illegal in Oman, according to a circular issued by a competent authority addressed to hotels and tourism facilities.
The circular seen by The Arabian Stories states the absolute prohibition of conducting “promotional offers for alcoholic beverages or publishing an advertisement about it in any way or means, according to the laws and regulations in force in the Sultanate.”
According to the circular violating the laws will lead to hefty fines, and in case of repetition, the license will be withdrawn, and the amount of the financial guarantee will be confiscated.

The circular also highlighted the need for tourist establishments and hotels to comply with the following measures:
- No photography will be allowed in any form inside the licensed facilities and establishments must place board in Arabic and English explaining this. Violators will be held legally accountable.
- Not to mention any phrases or images that may suggest the provision of alcoholic beverages in advertisements related to licensed parties or events.
- Providing specialized security guards in all private facilities.
- Not to circulate or publish any official correspondence related to alcoholic beverages in any form or by any means outside the establishment.
