MUSCAT: Oman has witnessed a 60 per cent drop in new COVID-19 cases reported in May, according to an analysis by the Ministry of Health.
“Sultanate witnessed a 60% decrease in the number of new infections in May, compared to the previous month,” Oman News Agency (ONA) said in a statement. Since the last two weeks, Oman has been reporting Covid-19 below 1,000 a day, while the number of hospitalised cases have also dropped. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country touched 208,607 including 2239 deaths.
Meanwhile, statistical analyst Ibrahim Al Maymani in an interview with Oman News Agency said there will be a significant decrease in cases in the month of September including a drop in inpatients in hospitals and ICUs. He said the drop will be due to the government’s plan to vaccinate 35 per cent of citizens and residents until the end of August.
