MUSCAT : Omani citizens working in the private sector has the right to compete for public sector jobs, Ministry of Labour has clarified on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by the Ministry said it has observed that some job applicants in the private sector are “refraining from registering employment contract due to the fear of losing public sector job opportunities.”

“Public sector job opportunities are open to all Omani workers including those in the private sector,” Ministry said.

The Ministry confirmed that it is mandatory to register work contracts in order to protect the rights and duties of the employee and the employer. “The number of years in service are counted in the workforce registry and it will be added as a practical experience that gives preference to competing for better opportunities,” Ministry added.
