MUSCAT: The National Urban Development Strategy (NUDS) will help to develop Muscat as a global city by 2040, according to the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning.
His Excellency Dr. Khalfan bin Saeed Al Shuaili said Muscat will be the gateway linking the Sultanate to the world. “This is our aim and we are working towards building Muscat as a global city,” Al Shuaili said.
According to the Minister, by 2040, the total population of Muscat city will be 2.5 million with a total workforce of 2.3 million. The total National workforce will be 1.7 million of which 75 percent are Omanis and 25 percent expats.

“The strategy will be based on developing cities suitable for living, preserving Omani identity, responding to climate change, promoting economic growth based on the components of each governorate, waste management, environment protection and sustainable transport system,” the Minister added.
