MUSCAT: The decision to close all commercial activities from 8 pm to 5 am starting from March 4 is to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the country, a senior Royal Oman Police (ROP) official said on Wednesday.
Speaking exclusively to The Arabian Stories, the ROP official has clarified that only commercial activities will be closed everyday from 8 pm to 5 am till March 20. “This is not a curfew or a movement ban. The decision by the Supreme Committee is clear and it is to close all commercial activities across all governorates. The decision has been taken to reduce the spread of the virus,” he said.
Only fuel stations, health institutions and private pharmacies are exempted from the closure. Meanwhile, in a statement issued Oman TV said the decision does not include preventing the movement of individuals or vehicles. The decision comes into effect from 8 pm on March 4.

Coronavirus cases are increasing at an alarming rate in Oman including deaths prompting authorities to impose stringent measures including closing public parks and beaches.
Oman on Wednesday 358 cases and three deaths in less than 24 hours. According to the Supreme Committee, the epidemiological situation data in the Sultanate showed that the new Covid-19 mutants including the South African strain was recorded in the country recently.
“We call on everyone to adhere to the rules and decisions issued by the Supreme Committee so that together we can fight Covid-19,” the official added.
