MUSCAT : PfizerbioNTech and Oxford-AstraZeneca, the two vaccines against coronavirus (Covid-19), are being applied to target segments by the Ministry of Health.
As many as 14,463 people took Oxford-AstraZeneca, covering 20% of the target segment for this vaccine as part of the first dose. The vaccine is being administered to people aged 65 and above, irrespective of whether or not they are healthy or suffer from any chronic disease.
Meanwhile, about 27,000 people were vaccinated with PfizerbioNTech, constituting 95% of the target segment (first dose) while the second dose was administered to 22,369 people, 82% of the target group.

The Ministry of Health reaffirmed its drive to receive more stocks of the vaccines through accredited channels and to achieve its objectives based on established methods devised by the specialized team, with emphasis on safety, validity and speed of supply of the vaccines after obtaining approval from national and international agencies and organisations. A number of agreements were signed to this effect by the Government of the Sultanate and international Covid-19 vaccine producing firms and Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI).
The number of doses that arrived at the Sultanate so far stood at 156,000, of which 56,000 were of PfizerbioNTech and 100,000 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca.
