More than 100,000 citizens apply for electricity subsidy in Oman

MUSCAT: More than 100,000 people have so far registered with the National Subsidy System (NSS) for electricity.

According to details 110,000 citizens have registered for the subsidy. This comes after the government issued a decision to lift the subsidies on utility in a phased manner starting from January 1, 2021. However, those who have registered under NSS will continue to receive the subsidy.

Following are the households that will come under the NSS.

  1. If the monthly family income is less than OMR 500, regardless of the number of family members.
  2. If the family income is OMR 750 or less and the number of family members is five or more.
  3. If the income is OMR 1,000 or less and the number of members is seven or more.
  4. If the income is OMR 1250 or less and the number of members is nine or more.
