The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment promotion has announced His Majesty the Sultan’s Award for Industrial Excellence 2020. The announcement marks the Ministry’s celebration of Omani Industry Day, which falls on 9 February every year.
The award was unveiled at a ceremony held under the auspices of Dr. Ali Mas’oud Al-Sunaidy, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones. A large gathering of officials from the Ministry, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), Madayn and the Industrialists Association attended the virtual ceremony.
The event also saw the proclamation of five industrial firms as winners of His Majesty the Sultan’s Cup for Industrial Excellence, 9 industrial firms as winners of the Ministry’s Excellence Shield from a total lineup of 74 industrial establishments that contested the prize.

The five top performers awarded the Industrial Excellence trophy were: Sohar Aluminum, Jindal Shadeed Iron and Steel, Oman Fiber Optic Company. S.A.O.C., National Pharmaceutical Industries Co (SAOG) and National Aluminium Products Company SAOG.
The nine firms that bagged the Ministry Excellence Shield were: plastic techniques industry firms, Al Maha Ceramics and Pipes LLC, Oman Flour Mills, Oman Aluminium Rolling Company LLC, Jotun Paints, Areej Vegetable Oil and Derivatives, Asian Paints and Salalah Flour Mills.
Dr. Saleh Said Massan, the ministry’s Undersecretary for Commerce and Industry, said that the converting industries sector’s contribution to the Gross Domestic Product, by the end of 2019, stood at RO 3 billion or 9.5% (from a total of RO 29.35 billion), according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information. The Centre also indicated that direct foreign investment in the converting industries sector rose from RO 924 million in 2014 to RO 1.1 billion in 2018, he added.
Dr. Saleh pointed out that His Majesty the Sultan’s Award for Industrial Excellence is a gesture to felicitate industrial establishments, enhance their competitiveness in local, regional and international markets and show the competence of the Omani industrial sector.
Meanwhile, Eng. Ridha Juma Saleh, OCCI Chairman, said that the event spans 50 years of the blessed renaissance, celebrates the role of best performing industrial establishments, boost the national product and upgrades in-country value.
Later, Qais Mohammed al-Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, convened with industrialists via videoconferencing and discussed with them the challenges posed to the industrial sector. The meeting also touched on the most prominent achievements made over the past one year.
