MUSCAT : His Excellency Sheikh Nasr Al Hosni, Undersecretary of Ministry of Labour has clarified that the government’s plans to increase expat work permit fees will not have any adverse impact on the country’s economy.

“The decision will not affect the local economy, and the cost is lower than that of neighboring countries,” Al Hosni pointed.

On Sunday, Redha Al Saleh, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce had said that the decision to raise expat work permit fees will incur big losses to business owners in the country. However, according to Al Hosni said the move will ensure companies hire Omanis for jobs. “Recruiting an Omani citizen is cost-effective compared to hiring expats. Every country in the world put in place laws and legislation to provide job opportunities for its citizens,” he added.
