MUSCAT : Oman will launch the first phase of Oxford Astrazeneca Covid-19 vaccination campaign from February 7, Ministry of Health said on Wednesday.

In a statement issued, MOH said the vaccine which is manufactured by Astrazeneca in cooperation with University of Oxford will be given to target groups including senior citizens and expats who are aged above 65 across all governorates. “The campaign in this period is targeting elderlies aged 65 and above in all the Sultanate’s Governorates , regardless of whether they are healthy or suffering from any chronic diseases. The vaccine will be given at the previously assigned immunisation centres in each respective Governorates,” MOH said.

“The ministry would like to note that the current vaccine does not cover persons who have received the first dose of PFizer/BioNTech vaccine during the past period; the date of their second dose will be announced later,” the statement added.

Early this week, India gifted Oman 100,000 doses of Oxford Astrazeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
