Spread over 15sqkm at Al Sunainah in Al Buraimi Governorate a dream, most modern of its kind in the region, is shaping up that will make Oman self-reliant in its growing dairy requirement thereby supporting the achievement of the Sultanate’s National Food Security Programme. The man who leads the charge towards bringing on that white revolution is an expert having hands-on experience in setting up and leading many similar projects elsewhere in the region and the rest of the world.

Dr. Arjun Subramanian is a dairy professional with 27 years of experience in project management, execution and commercial operations of integrated projects in the region and beyond.

Before joining Mazoon Dairy Company, he worked on integrated dairy projects with Dubai Investment’s Marmum Dairy Farm (UAE), FDPI India’s project, UAE-based IFFCO’s projects in Malaysia and Turkey, and OADC in Oman.

Mazoon Dairy Company is his latest integrated dairy project, and Subramanian is heading the team in its planning and implementation. It is a private equity initiative, supported by government institutions and investors.

The unique project, the first-ever in Oman, aims at producing dairy and dairy-related products such as ice cream and cheese along with a range of juice products. The firm is not only focused on setting up a dairy farm but also intends to establish a sustainable organisation and business.

Subramanian leads the development and execution of both short- and long-term strategies thereby supporting the achievement of Oman’s National Food Security Programme.

There is approximately 5−6% growth in dairy consumption every year, and 70% of the market needs within the GCC is imported.

The goal of Mazoon Dairy Company has been to plug this deficit and stimulate the local dairy industry. The dairy farm, considered as the most modern in the Gulf region, is located in Al Sunainah in Al Buraimi Governorate and is spread over an area of 15sqkm.

Unlike other dairies worldwide, Mazoon Dairy consists of a fully integrated facility that includes a farm with a capacity to house over 25,000 cows, a processing plant, a wastewater treatment plant and a biogas generation plant, packaging facilities, and even marketing and logistics facilities under one roof. “It’s a challenging journey, and I would like to thank the members of the board of directors for their trust, guidance and unwavering support.
