MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health is expected to secure 20% of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine by the end of this year, a top official said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al Hosni, Undersecretary of Ministry of Health said the first procurement of the vaccine will be used for frontline workers in the country. “We are in contact with major vaccine manufacturers, however, as of now there are no vaccines that are licenced by international bodies. But the promising news is that we are hoping to secure 20% of vaccines by the end of this year and it will be used for frontline workers that also include health workers,” Al Hosni said.
On Monday, the Supreme Committee members headed by His Excellency Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior visited the field hospital that will be used to treat Covid-19 patients in the country.

On Sunday, Oman registered the highest number of Covid-19 cases. 1,722 cases were recorded in 72 hours including 28 deaths.
