MUSCAT: Two senior Indian School teachers from Oman have been conferred with the prestigious Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) Teachers Award for their contribution in the field of education.

Eskalin Gonsalves and Venketeson Karthikeyan both from Indian School Muscat were felicitated by India’s Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ during an online ceremony in New Delhi. It is worth noting that both Gonsalves and Karthikeyan are also the only teachers from the GCC region to receive the award. 

Gonsalves is currently the Vice Principal of Indian School Muscat, while Karthikeyan is the sports teacher and is popular among cricket and tennis lovers in the country. These awards were presented for the year 2019-20 in honor of the teachers and principals of CBSE affiliated schools for their valuable contribution towards improving school education, innovation and dedication. 36 other teachers and principals of various schools in India were also felicitated during the ceremony. 

Each award consists of a Merit Certificate, a shawl and an amount of Rs 50,000/-. Since 2018, CBSE follows an online selection process for these exams. The applicants are evaluated on the basis of General and Specific criteria under each category and several parameters related to school education and their contribution towards its betterment.
