MUSCAT: The Consumer Protection Authority has conducted more than 5,000 inspection visits at commercial markets in less than a month to ensure there is no undue hike in prices of goods.

In a statement issued by the authority said 122 violations were registered during the inspection that include price difference on products and price rise.

“The Consumer Protection Authority, represented by its directorates and departments, carried out 5,553 field inspection visits to commercial markets during the period from July 25 to August 15 year 2020 in all governorates of the Sultanate. Through these visits, the extent of the commitment of suppliers to the implementation of laws is monitored and it is ensured that prices are stable and that there is no unjustified increase. As a result of those visits, 122 violations were recorded including price difference and price rise,” the authority said in a statement.

As many as 300 inspectors and judicial control specialists monitor 220,000 commercial activities in the Sultanate.
