MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police has urged to motorists, advising them to stay away from wadis and to avoid driving in poor visibility.
Oman has been on the alert since Thursday, as a tropical depression is expected to make its way across the country by Friday evening.
In a statement issued, ROP said: “Low horizontal visibility threatens the safety and security of the driver and passengers, and raises the risk of accidents. Drive with caution, reduce speed, while maintaining adequate safety distance and avoid driving in wadis.”

According to the National Multi Hazards Early Warning Centre the Sultanate may be affected by a tropical condition, which could be classified up from tropical depression to a deep tropical depression which is expected to make landfall on Friday evening and will continue till Sunday evening. “This will have impact in the governorates of Muscat, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Ad Dakhiliyah, North and South Al Sharqiyah, Al Dhahirah, Buraimi and parts of Al Wusta,” the statement said.
“There are chances of varying intensity of rainfall, with possible flash floods and fresh downdraft winds causing high sea waves,” the statement added.
