MUSCAT: A total of 136 people were arrested on Friday on charges of gathering and defying the Supreme Committee’s decisions in the wake of coronavirus outbreak in the country.
According to Royal Oman Police (ROP), 40 expats were arrested in Ghala Industrial area for gathering and organising Eid prayers. Oman has strictly banned all Eid Al Fitr gatherings including prayers and celebrations. Another 13 expats were held for gathering on the roof of a building in Al Khoud.
On Friday, ROP arrested 49 expats accused of gathering for lunch in a commercial complex in Al-Dakhiliya Governorate. Earlier on Sunday evening, ROP arrested 34 expatriates for playing cricket in Al Ansab in Muscat Governorate.
On Sunday, Oman recorded the highest single-day spike of 563 new coronavirus cases, taking the total tally to 7,770.
