MUSCAT: Oman has been aggressively testing people for the coronavirus across all the governorates.

According to His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Hosni, Undersecretary of Ministry of Health, up to 2,000 coronavirus tests are being done daily across the health centres in the country. “These tests will continue for a period of time to ensure people are protected,” Al Hosni said.

Most aggressive testing is done in Muscat Governorate and Wilayat Muttrah where the expats numbers are higher compared.

Asked if the country can flatten the cases to zero, Al Hosni had this to say: “We cannot assure that we will record zero cases because the current data indicates that the virus came to remain and will be like the influenza virus and with time there will be immunity in the society.”

Oman on Sunday confirmed 1,998 coronavirus cases in the country.
