Muscat: A philanthropist who refused to reveal his identity has come forward and paid the debts of 28 prisoners in Al Dhahira Governorate, paving the way for their release.

According to a report in Oman TV, the man who did not want his name to be made public made the contribution for the fourth time in a row. The donation was done through Fak Kurba, a voluntary organisation formed by the lawyers in the country to help people.

“Since its inception in 2012, the campaign has helped free more than 1,000 prisoners both citizens and residents around the Sultanate. Amounts that was raised to release prisoners ranged from OMR 100 to a maximum of OMR 2,000,” Oman TV said.
