Muscat: More than 35,000 workers in health sector are Omanis, according to a new report by the Ministry of Health (MOH).
In Annual Health Report published on Wednesday, MOH said 71 per cent of the workforce constitute Omanis. “The health workforce has increased, in which the total number of workers in the Ministry of Health has reached 39,303 by December 2018 and the Omanisation rate touched 71 per cent,” the report said.
In June this year, H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Obaid al Sa’eedi, Minister of Health had said that a total of 2,869 expatriates were replaced by Omani employees from 2015 to June 2019.

Meanwhile, MOH’s expenditure decreased for the third consecutive year after the fluctuation in oil prices and current economic changes.
“The total recurrent expenditures of Ministry of Health reached about OMR 674 million in 2018 compared to nearly OMR 793.2 million in 2015 at an average annual decline rate of about 5.6%, while the development expenditure reached about OMR 25.5 million,” the report added.
