Muscat: Criminal action would be initiated against those distributing gifts in the form of cash or kind to people with an aim of inducing them to vote in favour of a particular candidate, said Oman’s Public Prosecution in a statement issued on Friday.
Those indulging in such activities could be punished with three-year imprisonment and imposed a fine of OMR 3,000.
“The penalty shall also apply to anyone who mediates, facilitates or incites to do so,” the statement from Public Prosecution added.

As many as 713,335 Omanis will go to polls on Sunday. This year, there are 43 female candidates and 724 male candidates contending seats.
