NEW DELHI: Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is in serious contention alongside Karnataka’s Brijesh Patel and Gujarat Cricket Association’s Jay Shah for the post of BCCI president, national daily Times of India reported on Sunday. 

According to the report, Ganguly has been camping in New Delhi the last 48 hours as the ruling central government, with an eye on Bengal, seem to be luring the ex-cricketer with a plum post in the BCCI. State elections in his home state West Bengal might still be a year and a half away but between Ganguly is being seen as the kingmaker, or the king himself, on multiple fronts. 

“Sourav is very much the frontrunner for the role of BCCI president,” a source told Times. “There’s been some hectic lobbying on in New Delhi the last 48 to 72 hours,” the source added.  

Sourav Ganguly, who represented India in 113 Tests, is a popular choice among the members and is well-respected by the Indian team, especially skipper Virat Kohli, whose leadership skills are often compared with Ganguly’s.
