Muscat: Fake herbal medicines and health products are on the rise in Oman, according to the Ministry of Health.
In a statement issued online, MOH has warned people against buying herbal products that are promoted and sold through social media.
“The Ministry of Health has recently noticed the rising cases of trading and selling health and herbal medicines and formulations, as well as promoted through social media. These health and herbal medicines and formulations are being promoted by fake allegations about them they being safe and natural herbal products and do not cause any health risks.

“This violates clauses and provisions of the Regulation the Profession of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Establishments Law issued by Royal Decree No. 35/2015,” added the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry, herbal medicines promoted through social media contains chemicals despite being labelled as natural.
“This is considered commercial fraud and exposes the promoter of these products to legal liability,” the statement added.
The Ministry also urged people to purchase medicines only from licensed sources such as pharmacies as per the medical prescription by the doctor.
