MUSCAT: At 17.5 million, India’s diaspora continues to be the largest in the world – constituting 6.4% of the total world migrant population of 272 million in mid-2019.
Around 17.5 million Indians are living outside the country, making it the largest migrant population in the world, according to the UN’s International Migrant Stock released on Wednesday. The figure constitutes 6.4% of the total world migrant population of 272 million in mid-2019.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was the top destination for Indian migrants followed by the US, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, as per the data set compiled by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs Division.

In Oman, Indians remains the largest expat community. According to a report by National Centre for Statistics and Information, in 2018, there were 654,812 Indians living and working in the Sultanate.
