Muscat: After investing in Terrafugia flying cars, Lotus racing cars, the sports-inclined company Geely Auto will officially partner with the 19th Asian Games to be held in Geely’s home city of Hangzhou, China in 2022.
Under the partnership, Geely will work to develop a series of mobility solutions to service the 19th Asian Games including the development of autonomous connected, pure electric vehicles. It will facilitate for the transfer of athletes and spectators around the key venues.
Under the slogan “Enjoy E-mobility @ the Asian Games with Geely”, the smart vehicles based upon the leading Pure Electric Modular Architecture (PMA), will allow Geely to showcase its edge in vehicle autonomy and connectivity. By the year 2022, Geely will offer a range of products based on the PMA architecture, including sedans, MPVs and SUVs.

Ever since their debut in 1986, Oman has been making regular appearances at the Asian Games. Recognised by the International Olympic Committee, the Asian Games is the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympics. In the 2018 Asian Games, held in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, 46 Omani sportspersons took part in eight sporting events such as hockey, beach volleyball, swimming, sailing, weightlifting, shooting, tennis and athletics.
Oman has always excelled in athletics, winning a gold, silver and three bronze medals, across the 1986 Seoul, 1990 Beijing, 1998 Bangkok and 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.
Geely has always been a strong supporter of sports in Oman and worldwide. The company has supported the Chinese Olympic swimming team at the 2016 Olympics and is supporting motorsport culture within China by sponsoring Han Wei at the 2018 Dakar Rally and the Lynk & Co Cyan Racing Team for the 2019 World Touring Car championships.
