Indian National Congress president Rahul Gandhi has consented to fight from Wayanad in Kerala according to the former chief minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy.
T. Siddique, who was to fight from the constituency has backed out to make way for Rahul Gandhi, Chandy informed.
Chandy, who is also the AICC general secretary, said that KPCC had demanded that Rahul Gandhi fight from Wayanad.

Meanwhile, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ramesh Chennithala has said that they have requested Rahul Gandhi to contest from Wayanad.
In the Congress list that was published last night, candidates for Wayanad and Vadakara did not figure.
As Wayanad is a safe seat for Congress and since Rahul Gandhi had expressed his interest to fight from a seat in the South, Chandy suggested Wayanad as the best option.
If Rahul fights from the constituency, KPCC hopes that it will positive reflection across the state.
Demands that Rahul Gandhi should be fielded from Wayanad was already doing the rounds on Facebook ever since the election dates were declared.
Siddique, who was in the race from INC to contest in Wayanad, welcomed Rahul and said that it’s an honour to have Rahul in Wayanad.
He also added that Congress Convention scheduled to be held today evening in Wayanad will request Rahul to contest from Wayanad.
“It is an honour for Keralites to offer a PM from Kerala,” Siddique said.
Congress leader PC Vishnunath also said that Congress has the history of fielding senior leaders from South.
Karnataka and Tamil Nadu Congress units had also made similar requests.
Earlier, Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi had contested Lok Sabha polls from Karnataka. Indira Gandhi contested the Lok Sabha by-elections from Chikmangalur in 1978 and won.
Sonia Gandhi had contested 1999 Lok Sabha elections from Bellary in Karnataka and won.
Karnataka former chief minister Siddaramaiah had tweeted that the Karnataka unit of Congress wants Rahul Gandhi to contest upcoming Lok Sabha polls from the state.
Tamil Nadu Congress chief KS Alagiri also had urged Rahul Gandhi to contest from their state.
