MUSCAT: Increasing financial allocations for the Governorates Development Program will accelerate the government’s strategic decentralization shift, according to His Excellency Dr. Nasser Al Mawali, Undersecretary of Ministry of Economy.
On Tuesday, His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik has directed issued directives to increase the sums accorded to Governorates Development Programme from OMR 10 million to OMR 20 million for each governorate during the current Five Year Plan, with effect from 2022.
“The financial allocations for the Governorates Development Program will accelerate the development of different governorates and the Government’s strategic decentralization shift,” Al Mawali said.

The Royal directives require the respective governors to present annual executive plans to the departments concerned about ways to expend the sums. The decision came during His Majesty’s meeting with Sheikhs of A’Dakhiliyah, and Al Wusta.
His Majesty the Sultan also tasked the governors with the responsibility of following up the execution of social and service projects in their respective governorates.
