MUSCAT: The inflation rate of consumer prices in the Sultanate of Oman has increased in March 2022 by 3.6 percent compared to the same month of 2021.
The inflation rate has also increased by 0.1 percent compared to February 2022, according to the data of the monthly consumer price survey conducted by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The data showed an increase in the prices of the main commodity groups in March 2022 compared to the same month of 2021. The main commodity groups include the transportation group by 6.6 percent; the education group by 5.1 percent; the group of foodstuffs and non-alcoholic beverages by 4.9 percent; the group of miscellaneous goods and services by 3.9 percent; tobacco group by 3.9 percent; health group by 2.9 percent; culture and entertainment group by 2.6 percent.

The clothing and footwear group increased by 2.3 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuel group by 2 percent; the furniture, fixtures, household equipment and regular household maintenance group by 1.2 percent, and the restaurants and hotels group by 1.1 percent.
According to data from NCSI, the oil prices index increased by 15 percent, the vegetable price index by 10.7 percent, the meat price by 6.7, the prices of fruits by 6.1 percent, the prices of sugar, jam, honey and sweets by 2.9 percent, and the prices of fish and seafood by 2.3 percent.
It recorded a decrease of 9.6 percent compared to the previous month of this year, and the prices of bread and cereals increased by 2 percent, and the prices of other foodstuffs, milk, cheese and eggs achieved the same increase, which amounted to 1.8 percent, and the prices of non-alcoholic beverages increased by 1.4 percent, during the month of March. 2022 compared to the same month of 2021.
Al Dakhiliyah Governorate witnessed the highest rate of increase in inflation by 4.5 percent, then the North Al Batinah Governorate by 4.4 percent, followed by the South and North Al Sharqiyah governorates with 4 percent.
Al Buraimi Governorate by 3.7 percent, then the Dhofar Governorate by 3.4 percent, and then Al Dhahirah Governorate By 3.3 percent, the Governorate of Muscat recorded the lowest inflation rate of 2.9 percent during March 2022 compared to the same month in 2021.
