MUSCAT : Engineer Ali bin Bakhit Bait Saeed, the Director of the Water Resources Department at the General Directorate of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources in Dhofar Governorate, highlighted the pivotal features of the ongoing project. The dam, with a storage capacity exceeding 83 million cubic meters of water, is set to become the second-largest in Oman after the Wadi Dayqah Dam in the Muscat Governorate.

The comprehensive scope of the project encompasses the construction of a 386-meter-long dam made of compacted earth, accompanied by a 70-meter-high structure. Additionally, a canal will be built to facilitate water drainage from the dam lake. The project also includes a concrete side spillway measuring 80 meters in length, along with advanced monitoring devices to oversee groundwater levels, lake water levels, leaks in the dam, sediment percentages, and cadastral points.

Engineer Ali bin Bakhit emphasized the strategic importance of this initiative in safeguarding against flood risks in Salalah. Upon completion, the protection system will shield Salalah, Raysut Industrial City, and the Salalah Free Zone from potential flood hazards, reducing sediment influx into Salalah Port by a significant 70 per cent.
