Muscat – Nestled within the expansive Special Economic Zone in Duqm, the ASYAD Dry Dock Complex boasts its status as one of the most extensive ship repair and manufacturing facilities in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Last year marked a pivotal moment for ASYAD as it introduced ship manufacturing services to support Oman’s growing ship manufacturing sector. The focus shifted to specialized vessels, including cargo and landing ships, modern fishing vessels, and marine research vessels.
Since the initiation of operations in 2011 until September 2023, ASYAD Dry Dock has successfully executed over 1,700 maintenance projects for more than 550 clients hailing from approximately 70 countries. The complex’s infrastructure includes two docks, each equipped to handle ships with a tonnage of up to 600 thousand tons. Additionally, a 2,800-meter-long berth, industrial workshops, and expansive yards contribute to its comprehensive service offerings.

The first quarter of 2023 witnessed a significant enhancement in an operational capacity with the commissioning of a floating dock, elevating the company’s maintenance and repair capabilities by 20 per cent. Dr. Abdul Salam bin Omar Al-Rabani, Acting Chief Operating Officer at ASYAD Dry Dock, highlighted the company’s strategic investment of over RO 6 million in acquiring the floating dock. This move, he stated, ensures a cost-effective and swift expansion compared to traditional dry docks.
Al-Rabani emphasized ASYAD Dry Dock’s leadership and competitiveness in the MENA region, underscoring its global acclaim for providing maintenance and repair services for large vessels. The dock’s daily operations have witnessed a remarkable increase, handling 6 to 25 projects daily, reflecting its prowess in meeting the rising demands of its clientele.
ASYAD Dry Dock has achieved a competitive average of 14 days in ship repair and maintenance, surpassing the regional average of 18 days. The dock’s strategic location, competitive pricing, timely services, and adherence to the highest environmental, health, and occupational safety standards have made it a magnet for leading operators and companies in the maritime sector.
