MUSCAT: Oman has tested more than 175,000 samples for coronavirus (Covid-19) infection so far, according to the country’s Minister of Health.
His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Saidi said close to 4,500 samples are being tested daily. “We have so far tested 175,278 samples of which 34,902 cases have tested positive for coronavirus. We test almost 4,500 samples every day,” he said.
According to the Minister, there are “pressures” to introduce rapid testing in the country but Oman is using the internationally approved PCR testing for coronavirus cases. “There are calls to use the rapid examination devices but they need to be reviewed, as we are using the internationally approved PCR examination,” he added.
