MUSCAT: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has promised to continue the legacy of the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur.
Sultan Qaboos led Oman for almost 50 years, coming to power in 1970, and drove a widespread programme of modernisation in the country throughout those five decades and favoured moderation and mediation in regional affairs. In his opening remarks on January 10, 2020, His Majesty Sultan Haitham said: “Words fall short of articulating a eulogy for a Sultan as great as him (Qaboos Bin Said), or describe his good deeds and accomplishments. Our only relief — the best with which we can eternalize his achievements — is to pursue his rightful legacy and derive impetus for the brilliant steps that he treaded in full confidence and determination, to preserve the gains that he made and to build upon them. This is what we are resolved to execute, God willing.”
Speaking to The Arabian Stories, Pankaj Khimji, Director of Khimji Ramdas Group said: “Having known him so closely, I must tell you His Majesty Sultan Haitham is the best man to take Oman forward. Our nation is in safe hands under Sultan Haitham,” he added.
Kings College in UK also hailed Sultan Haitham’s approach in continuing with Sultan Qaboos’ legacy. “His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s announcement that the Sultanate is committed to fundamentals of its foreign policy, elaborating that His Majesty sent a message of reassurance to the global community,” the study said.
